NY Botanical Garden - in the snow!

You may know how much I love snow! My friend Kirstin is a volunteer at the NY Botanical Garden, so she took me yesterday - and we got to enjoy the snow-covered garden - so beautiful :) We even found some green grass!

Quick, easy, sweet treats :)

While at my parents' for Christmas, I got to try some delicious treats. I decided to make them to share at my church for New Year's Eve. Don't they look great?!

My friend Lucy and I went on a food-tasting walking tour in Astoria in November 2010. Here we are about to dig in to a Chilean hot dog - YUM!

Recent Broadway adventure

Yes - I'm still here :)

I've had the chance to see a few Broadway shows this year and the last one I saw starred Vanessa Williams and Tom Wopat - who were both amazing! I got to meet Tom after the show - this is me with Luke Duke!!

Video camera fun

So, I recently got a video camera. It's a Flip - and it fits in my pocket! I will try not to get too carried away with posting videos. But....here's the first one!

I went to the Army football game today - and we beat VMI! Here is part of halftime. Enjoy! And, yes - I am aware that there is part of this for which I will not be named filmmaker of the year - LOL!

Zipcar

As you know, I sold my car before I moved to Manhattan, since you don't need one here :) However, I have wanted and needed to drive a few times. I signed up for Zipcar - I can rent a car by the hour - and they have cars parked all over the city - including less than a block from where I live! And, since I signed up, I can use cars in other cities as well - all over the US. If you're interested - here's a link for more info :)

Join Zipcar and get $25 in free driving!

Family in NYC for Christmas!

That's us in front of the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center - in the snow!

My parents and sister have been here for a week now and we've had a great time! I've kept them pretty busy - church, shows, sightseeing, and even a museum.

We even went on a carriage ride through Central Park:

Here they are enjoying the subway:

I hope you have had a very Merry, Happy and Joy-filled Christmas!

Love you!

My new church!

After only being in NYC for a month, I found a wonderful church! It is Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church - check it out: http://www.redeemerlutheranbronx.org/

It has truly been a blessing to me!

Show update....

Since I haven't been posting - I thought I'd do one long one about all the shows I've been to since I've been here. I love Broadway musicals!

The ones I've seen that have since closed are: RENT, Legally Blonde, Xanadu, A Chorus Line and Damn Yankees. I also saw one play - The Country Girl - with Frances McDormand, Peter Gallagher and Morgan Freeman - amazing!

Other shows I've seen:

In the Heights - which I already can't wait to see again; it's about a neighborhood in Manhattan north of where I live - great music!

Wicked - everyone should see this!

Gypsy - with Broadway diva Patti Lupone - wow!

Spamalot - very funny, even if you haven't seen an entire Monty Python movie

Mamma Mia - how much do I love the music of Abba!

Shrek - I was lucky enough to see this during previews; so good - even though they didn't use Danielle's original song, "Bringing Ugly Back"

Phantom of the Opera - truly a classic, but rather dark

Avenue Q - puppets for adults and very funny

Off Broadway shows I've seen:

Rock of Ages - which I've now seen 3 times, and will be moving to Broadway in March (also keep your eyes out for a movie version)

Altar Boyz - I do love boy bands :)

Blue Man Group - entertaining even though they don't say/sing anything

Am I sure I like snow??

Yes, I'm sure, I just wish it wasn't snowing so much today. My parents and sister are supposed to be flying here today for a week-long visit. I really hope they get here! It's been snowing all day :) While it is pretty, it's making a mess of air travel.

In other news - I've decided to really give this blog thing a whirl. I will try to post at least once a week and add pictures whenever possible! So, get ready :)

Big Move

After 17 years in College Station, I decided it was time for a change. I got a job in NYC - at Fordham College Lincoln Center. Mom and I drove a moving truck across the country and I'm here! I thought this might be a good way to share my adventures - as I'm sure I'll have many :) Don't worry, I promise not to post every picture I take.......
